Here is my journey at the intersection between NFT and Immersive technologies. This is not a portfolio page, but rather a showcase of how Immersive technologies could support artists and the whole crypto art ecosystem. From bottom to top you will be able to reconstruct chronologically the process and the story behind every artwork and hopefully get triggered and inspired (and of course, if you really like some of the artwork, purchase it once it gets on sale 😉).
3. Making of "Peace"
I decided to call the first artwork "Peace". A soldier wearing a VR headset looks in front of him and sees a peaceful landscape that blends within the dirty and harsh environment where he is in. Grass turns into barded wire, a church on the horizon seems threatened by a looming military attack. Is this the shadow of a past he is trying to restore? Is it the family and home he left behind? Whatever the answer might be, the 5 of hearts he holds dear on his helmet is associated with "sadness and depression" hinting at a painful past or an impossible future.
2. (Virtual) Realities
I decided to explore the meaning of (Virtual) Reality with a series of five artworks that question the distinction between what is virtual and what is real. In every one of the sketches I made, you will see depicted two overlapping realities that make the viewer question what is real and what is virtual. The transition between the 2 is often subtle and I intend to strengthen this effect using a very different color palette for the "virtual reality cone" departing from the headset the main character is wearing and his/her surrounding. Each one of these artworks will be created using a VR tool called Painting VR. Painting VR is a painting simulation currently available on Oculus Quest that allows to paint on a virtual canvass. With this collection I have 2 main objectives:
- Explore how a VR creative tool could be used to make an artwork in which VR becomes a storytelling tool in itself to discuss relevant real-world topics like, war, love, death etc
- Create a series of artworks that is flexible to interpretation and that is able to spark a conversation around relevant topics close to our daily life.
I decided to step "officially" into this world by sharing what I know with the community. I started thinking about how immersive technologies were connected to the NFT world and there were certainly many overlaps. While trying to put something informative, I realized that it is really the wild-west out there and I decided to lay down a high-level structure that could be used to explore how I believe NFTs could benefit from AR & VR. You can check "Supercharging NFT with AR & VR" on medium.
The article was complete but then I thought: what about a meaningful thumbnail? Can I make something that fits within the message I am trying to communicate? At this point, I was sure that the Thumbnail HAD to be made with a VR creative tool and HAD to become an NFT. So here you have it! Check out a video edit of the creative process in Tvori
